Meditation allows us to see through our minds conditioning and live more fully present in the moment. By maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and the surrounding environment, we can reset from our daily routine and find calmness in a chaotic world. As items such as handheld devices become ever-present in our lives, ‘turning off’ stressful jobs can become difficult to achieve. When we do not take time to look after thoughts and feelings, life can become distorted. Our 8-week course aims to provide the tools necessary to help achieve a greater result of practicing mediation at home. MBSM teaches 4 steps of mediation – Preparation, Relaxation, Mindfulness, and Stillness. The course is accredited by the Gawler Foundation of Australia as one of the 7 essential elements of healing and wellness.
“You don’t have to feel stuck, stressed, and overwhelmed – inner peace in this frantic world is possible. You can experience a clearer, more connected and calmer way of living with the Art of Mindfulness.” The Gawler Foundation.
Each week the course covers theoretical framework of steps using experiential exercises to help an individual to understand the Preparation, Relaxation, Mindfulness, and Stillness method to develop your own meditation practice.

Helena’s personal experience with meditation began in 1992, developing for her a deep interest in the wellbeing benefits of meditation. Further studies and reading into mindfulness meditation created a goal to pursue formal studies in this area. Eventually the opportunity to study Mindfulness Meditation Teacher training with Dr Ian Gawler arose and in 2009 Helena completed her first training course in this field. More recently she completed further studies with Ian Gawler and Ruth Gawler in Australia in the practices of Guided Imagery and Contemplation.
Now settled in Rotorua, Helena brings a diverse and extensive skill set to Polynesian Spa. She is excited to share some meditation and mindfulness tips at the Retreat to help women switch off from their busy lives.
"When one thought ends, right before the next thought begins, there is a tiny gap called 'now.' Over time we learn to expand that gap."
