Bring your mind, body and spirit into balance – book our weekend retreat, dates below

Switch off from your busy life and experience two days on our Mindful Moments Weekend Retreat to bring your mind, body and spirit into balance. Mindful meditation has been shown to reduce anxiety and stress, increase memory, and improve attention.

Surrounded by the natural elements of Rotorua and Polynesian Spa’s therapeutic alkaline and acidic spring waters, you will be guided through yoga, mindfulness practices, meditation and wellness talks.  You will also be indulging in world-renowned Polynesian Spa therapy treatments.

Mindful Moments is hosted by our highly experienced Spa and Retreat Manager Helena Keenan and inspirational Polynesian Spa Health and Wellness ambassador Rachel Grunwell.

This unique geothermal bathing and soul-soothing retreat originated here at Polynesian Spa in 2016 and has established itself as a must-do health and wellness experience for those wanting to unwind, relax and reset. The Retreat, is a great option for couples,  mother and daughter bonding time or a group of friends looking for an anti-stress yoga and wellness weekend.

Helena’s personal experience with Meditation began in 1992 developing for her a deep interest in the Wellbeing benefits of Meditation. Further studies and reading into Mindfulness Meditation created a goal to pursue formal studies in this area. The opportunity to study Mindfulness Meditation Teacher training with Dr Ian Gawler arose and in 2009 and Helena completed her first training course in this field.

More recently Helena has completed further studies with Ian Gawler and Ruth Gawler in Australia, in the practices of Guided Imagery and Contemplation. Helena also has extensive experience with Aromatherapy, Massage Therapy, and overall health and well-being.

Helena brings a diverse and extensive skill-set to Polynesian Spa.

Wellness expert (wellness coach/speaker/yoga + mindfulness teacher), award-winning journalist & author

Rachel comes from a background of 28-years’ experience in the media industry as a writer and columnist for a string of New Zealand’s biggest media organisations. She won New Zealand’s best social issues journalist of the year award during her journalism career. She still writes for magazines in the niche of wellness.

However, these days, Rachel is more often the one being interviewed by media as a wellness expert, who runs her own company Inspired Health NZ. A wellness coach and yoga & mindfulness teacher, she runs corporate wellness workshops and speaks at events, festivals, and expos on how to elevate your wellbeing. Her advice is always research-backed and highly relatable. She runs retreats to help Kiwis with tools on how to be more resilient, healthier, happier, and to live more vibrantly alive. She has been co-leading the Mindful Moments Retreats at Polynesian Spa for years with top reviews.

Rachel has found herself viewed by companies and brands as a “wellness influencer” over the past ten years and has loved trying lots of new products out in the market. This has led to her partnering with a number of brands that care about elevating the wellbeing of Kiwis. Rachel gives a stuff about not stuffing up the planet, and as a self-confessed “girly-girl”, she only backs brands that deliver on an exceptional experience too.

Ultimately, Rachel wants to inspire Kiwis to live life more in balance one tiny step at a time. Focus on progression, not perfectionism.

A published author, Beatnik Publishing released Rachel’s book Balance: Food, Health + Happiness two years ago, which includes 30 global experts sharing research-backed advice on how to live life healthier, happier, and more mindfully. The book includes advice from nutritionists, psychologists, professors, neuroscientists, emotional intelligence experts to happiness researchers, as well as hacks on more sustainable living. In the book, the mum says her sons have helped to stretch her views on living more consciously in this world too. Her oldest son Zach is a long-time vegetarian, and passionate about making planet-protecting choices.

Enjoy Rachel’s mindfulness and wellness Blog for great hints and tips to uplift your life.
