Rotorua’s Whakarewarewa Forest is home to one of the world’s best trail networks and in 2015, it was awarded the International Mountain Biking Association prestigious gold-level status – one of only six in the world. With 145kms of trails, graded 1 (easy) to 6 (for experienced riders only), weaving their way through stunning native and exotic bush, riding Rotorua is an epic adventure for all abilities.
Get in on the action
See the flips and whips up close and rub shoulders with the world’s best mountain bikers as they descend on our city for Crankworx Rotorua from March 9-13. Part of the Crankworx World Tour, this event brings the world’s downhill, slopestyle and enduro legends together with the superfans, rising stars, industry innovators and the next generation of mountain bike riders for five days of competition, concerts, and mountain bike culture www.crankworx.com/rotorua
Inspiration will be pumping and you can ride the same trials as the Crankworx elite’s at Skyline Rotorua Mountain Bike Gravity Park. You can also hire a set of wheels if you don’t have your own from Mountain Bike Rotorua, based on-site and at the Waipa carpark, Whakarewarewa Forest.
Soothe your aching muscles
After an awesome day of riding, unwind, relax and soothe your muscles at Polynesian Spa. The Deluxe Lake Spa is the perfect destination for athletes, with active relaxation options to maximise your experience.
With Lake Rotorua within your reach, you’ll discover four alkaline mineral hot pools (36˚C – 42˚C), an acidic mineral hot pool and a cold plunge pool for hydrotherapy, all surrounded by native flora.
Hydrotherapy has long been included in athlete’s training programmes and the cold plunge pool is designed for maximum muscle relaxation. Switching from hot to cold water causes muscles to expand and contract, gently squeezing toxins from the muscles. Alternate between the pools three times for the best results, and you’ll be ready for your next adventure.
