The BOP Steamers regularly frequent our facilities as part of their recovery regime.  This week we bring you Keith Roberts, Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, view on the restorative benefits of Polynesian Spa’s thermal pools:

Polynesian Spa has been a major benefit to me personally but particularly to the teams (and individual athletes) that I have worked with since moving to Rotorua in 2001.

The Bay of Plenty Steamers used the pools extensively in my first period with them as their Strength & Conditioning Coach from 2001 – 2006 and again upon my return in the 2014 season.

The players love going to the pools at Polynesian Spa. The whole experience has several benefits for the players;

They REALLY like the atmosphere
The staff are always so friendly and accommodating (they always feel so welcome there)
Physically, the restorative/recuperative benefits of the thermal pools is without question. Players DO recover from the rigors of hard physical training or from playing a game of Rugby significantly quicker than the traditional recovery procedures done elsewhere.
Psychologically, the soothing /calming effects of the thermal pools make the players “Just FEEL so much better”. It’s always such a positive experience for them and they can, and do, return to training quicker and in better physical condition compared to if they hadn’t been soaking in the hot mineral waters.

Players are always asking me “Can we get into Polynesian Spa after training” whether they live in Rotorua or out of town.

I would recommend Polynesian Spa to anyone, whether they are a full time professional athlete, serious club player, casual trainer or whatever level of fitness they are at. Polynesian Spa would be GREAT FOR YOU.
