Why Has Polynesian Spa Been a Rotorua Icon Since 1878?
The therapeutic waters in Polynesian Spa’s 28 hot pools come from two natural springs with very different qualities:
Priest Spring – Named after Father Mahoney, a Catholic priest who found relief from crippling arthritis here in 1878. Its acidic, sulphate-rich water helps soothe tired muscles, aches, and pains.
Rachel Spring – Our alkaline source, rich in sodium silicate, known for its nourishing effect on the skin. Since 1902, its waters have been reticulated to the spa, historically celebrated for promoting youthful, radiant skin.
Together, Priest and Rachel Springs have shaped Polynesian Spa’s reputation as New Zealand’s original hot spring experience for well over a century.
