Retreat leader: Motivate Me NZ’s Makaia Carr:
Dreamt up by Makaia Carr – the embodiment of a gorgeous, healthy and dedicated Kiwi woman – Motivate Me NZ (MMNZ) is for all women who, like Makaia, find working long hours and balancing the commitments of family, while trying to be healthy, an endless battle.
MMNZ provides a community and central hub for free thinking, motivated women looking to unleash their potential and live their best lives. While MMNZ provides the environment, tools and space for women to unleash their potential, the real strength of the group comes from the women themselves, as they come together to provide support, encouragement and advice to each other as they work towards living healthier, fitter, stronger and more positive lifestyles. The community currently has 2,400 active members, over 100,000 followers on its Facebook page.
Retreat leader: Polynesian Spa Retreat Manager Helena Keenan
With a deep-seated passion for sharing health and wellbeing with others, Helena has spent nearly four decades honing her skills throughout the world. Now settled in Rotorua, Helena brings a diverse and extensive skill-set to Polynesian Spa.
With aromatherapy a particular passion, Helena studied her craft in London under the guidance of Madame Micheline Arcier, who is widely regarded as a pioneer of modern aromatherapy, having worked with some of the most renowned practitioners in the world. Helena then spent 15 years in Australia, working as a lecturer and as Head of Faculty for Remedial Therapies at the Australian College of Natural Medicine in Melbourne and Brisbane, before stepping back into the spa industry as a manager in some of the world’s top resorts. During this time, Helena also did meditation training with Dr Ian Gawler who famously cured himself of cancer through meditation. Helena is excited to share some meditation and mindfulness tips at the Retreat to help women switch off from their busy lives. She’ll also share her incredible knowledge of aromatherapy with everyone.
Yoga instructor: Hollie Beau Yoga
Hollie is originally from the Lake District in England and she now lives in Rotorua where she practices alignment based yoga. Hollie has been practicing yoga for over ten years and teaching for the last two and a half. She completed her yoga teacher training with Amy Ippoliti of YogaGlo and 90 Monkeys in Boulder, Colorado. This included a module of Sanskrit Studies with Manorama.
Hollie also did significant study with Gabriela Maass of Continuum Yoga, who introduced her to yoga back in the UK. During her travels through India she also completed two immersions with senior Iyengar Yoga teacher Bramacharya Rudra Dev of Rishikesh. A lover of adventure, Hollie has a degree in Outdoor Studies and spends a lot of time mountain biking in Rotorua’s Whakarewarewa Forest and she was previously a rock climbing instructor too.
